Treaty Three Police Service Statement on Community Safety and Commitment to Combat Human Trafficking
FROM: General Headquarters
(KENORA) The Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) acknowledges the recent concerns raised by Grassy Narrows First Nation regarding incidents that have led to the reinstatement of a community checkpoint. We fully support the proactive measures taken by the Chief and Council to ensure the safety of their members.
T3PS is dedicated to addressing human trafficking, drug trafficking, and organized crime in our communities. Our Community Street Crime Unit is specifically tasked with investigating and responding to occurrences related to these critical issues.
Through the Maanaji’iwin Project, T3PS works to prevent human trafficking, raise awareness, and provide support to victims across Treaty #3. We are also actively involved in initiatives that enhance community safety, such as CCTV projects in Onigaming, Naotkamegwanning, and Iskatewizaagegan #39, which are part of a broader effort to use technology to monitor and protect our communities. We are open to collaborating with other communities to implement similar solutions where needed.
In Grassy Narrows, we are proud to have a Community Sergeant who has been dedicated to serving the community, actively engaging with residents, and fostering a safer environment. This role reflects our ongoing commitment to building trust and maintaining a strong presence in the community.
We encourage all community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. Human trafficking is a complex and critical issue, and we are committed to continued collaboration, investigation, and education to protect our communities.
T3PS remains committed to working alongside Treaty #3 leadership and community members to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
Treaty Three Police Service is a self-administered Policing entity under the First Nations Policing Program in Canada and is responsible for full policing duties in First Nation Communities in the greater Treaty #3 territory.
