Traffic Stop Leads to Impaired Driving Charge and Vehicle Impoundment
FROM: General Headquarters
(KENORA) – Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) has laid multiple charges following a traffic stop in the early morning hours of May 17, 2025, resulting in one individual being charged with impaired driving and another facing provincial offences.
The incident began when a report was made to the RCMP, prompting an alert to be issued by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Shortly after, the vehicle was located by members of the Treaty Three Police Service where they conducted a traffic stop. Both open and unopened alcohol were seized from the vehicle.
The driver, a 36-year-old male from Grassy Narrows, was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
- Driving While Under Suspension
The vehicle was towed and impounded for 45 days in accordance with provincial regulations. The driver was also issued a Part 3 summons and received four provincial offences notices.
The passenger, a 44-year-old male, was also charged under the Liquor License and Control Act (LLCA) and the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
Rising Concern: Impaired Driving in 2025
This charge marks the 29th impaired driving charge laid by T3PS so far in 2025—a concerning trend that underscores the risks impaired drivers pose to all road users.
“We want to remind everyone that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not only illegal but also dangerous,” said Community Sergeant Alicia McCready of T3PS. “Our officers are committed to removing impaired drivers from the roads to keep our communities safe. If you choose to drive impaired, you will be caught, and you will face the consequences.”
T3PS urges community members to plan ahead, use designated drivers, and report suspected impaired drivers to ensure the safety of everyone on Treaty #3 roadways.
Treaty Three Police Service is a self-administered policing entity under the First Nations Policing Program in Canada, responsible for full policing duties within the Treaty #3 territory.
