(Kenora, ON) – On September 4th, 2014 members of the Treaty Three Police Service Street Crime Unit and Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit executed a CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) search warrant on a local residence in the Obashkaandagaang (Washagamis Bay) First Nation Territory.
As a result of the search, quantities of Cannabis Marijuana plants were seized and charges will be pending against the resident for Production of a Schedule II Drug under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
As of July 1, 2014 the Treaty Three Police Service deployed a Street Crime Unit comprised of our Drug Enforcement Officer, Intelligence Officer and Guns and Gangs Officer. These (3) experienced Criminal Investigators work in concert, to be a proactive, problem solving response to eliminate or disrupt Criminal Activities in the Greater Treaty Three Area.
With the growing concerns of substance abuse in the First Nation Territories, the Street Crime Unit is mandated to identify local community drug dealers, investigate their illegal activities and lay appropriate charges. (This also applies to illegal sales of alcohol and other intoxicants / inhalants).
The public is reminded to please contact Treaty Three Police Service with any information regarding the illicit sale of controlled and illegal substances or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-(800) 222-8477 (TIPS).
