Job Overview:

Under the Ontario Supporting Police Response to Sexual Violence and Harassment Grant Program, the Treaty Three Police Service is accepting applications for a Program Coordinator for the Support our Survivors (S.O.S)

To initiate and maintain contact with victims and designated family members of Sexual Assault investigations by the Treaty Three Police Service.   The incumbent will assist the Treaty Three Police Service investigators in building and maintaining positive relationships with family members and will serve as the central point of contact.  The incumbent will provide general information regarding the Criminal Justice system, short-term counselling, risk assessments, safety planning and referrals to community programs as required.  The incumbent will be responsible for guiding families through the complexities of the Justice system providing analysis, interpretation and assessment of individual needs.

The incumbent will liaise with other government departments and agencies to ensure issues related to child welfare, housing, social assistance are addressed. The incumbent will work closely with victims and families of sexual assault of and community agencies to ensure each receive comprehensive support and referral to traditional and conventional resources.

The qualified candidate will be responsible for the overall implementation of this program to all 23 Treaty #3 Communities policed by the Treaty Three Police Service.


  • To offer support and counselling to victims who are survivors of rape, sexual assault, abuse and incest, and to those affected by violence reported to the Treaty Three Police Service
  • Creating forms and brochures as required;
  • Composing and typing correspondence as required;
  • Maintaining confidential community contacts and e-mail lists;
  • Completing monthly report to the Chief of Police and ensuring all presentations are entered on Records Management System (RMS);
  • Filing documents and completing final report to Ministry of Community Safety and correctional Services.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Understanding of the root causes of Sexual violence;
  • Valid Ontario drivers licence;
  • No criminal record;
  • Must pass background check and security clearance;

  • Giving concise, understandable, accurate directions/instruction;

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to problem solve and exercise good judgement and cope in difficult situations;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Knowledge and understanding of community languages, culture, traditions with a high sensitivity to aboriginal issues.
