Missing Person Investigation Update
(Agency One Lands) – Treaty Three Police Service is providing an update regarding the missing person investigation involving 46-year-old Peter Buckle of Lac La Croix First Nation.
On November 19, 2025, Peter Buckle was reported missing after he was believed to have left a residence by boat. Extensive search efforts were conducted in Lac La Croix and the surrounding area by Treaty Three Police Service members, community volunteers, and partner agencies.
The search involved marine vessels, the Treaty Three Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT), and coordinated efforts with the Ontario Provincial Police and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
Despite extensive search efforts, Peter was not located at that time.
On June 6, 2026, a deceased male was located in the water near the community on the United States side of the border. The individual has since been positively identified as Peter Buckle.
As the location falls within the United States, the investigation has been assumed by U.S. authorities.
Treaty Three Police Service extends its sincere condolences to Peter’s family, friends, and community members during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the many community members, volunteers, and partner agencies who assisted in the search efforts over the past several months.
Treaty Three Police Service is a self-administered Policing entity under the First Nations Policing Program in Canada and is responsible for full policing duties in the greater Treaty #3 territory.
