Cultural Coordinator – North Detachment
The Cultural Coordinator at Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission to provide culturally sensitive policing services within the Treaty Three service area. The role is primarily focused on coordinating cultural events, fostering cultural understanding, and ensuring cultural protocols are adhered to in all aspects of the police service. This is a permanent full time position and may require evenings and weekends. The Cultural Coordinator will work with internal and external partners to ensure cultural practices and traditions are respected, supported, and integrated into the work of T3PS.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all cultural protocols of the Treaty Three Communities are respected during the planning and implementation of T3PS programs and events.
- Oversee operational events and staff to ensure effective coordination, compliance with policies, and alignment with T3PS objectives.
- Safeguard and care for T3PS Sacred Items, ensuring all cultural protocols are followed.
- Lead and implement the T3PS Cultural Program, enhancing cultural capacity across the service.
- Coordinate, plan, and assist with cultural events, both internal and external to T3PS.
- Develop and maintain a resource list of cultural leaders, Elders, and other community resources.
- Maintain and manage a calendar of cultural events and respond to requests for attendance.
- Establish relationships with community traditional helpers and support their involvement with T3PS.
- Complete administrative functions, including reports, in line with T3PS policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in local, regional, and internal committees that support cultural services.
- Facilitate and provide training on traditional cultural teachings to T3PS staff and partnering agencies.
- Perform regular smudging of T3PS vehicles and ensure appropriate medicines are available.
- Support the planning of annual seasonal ceremonies and participate in cultural activities as required.
- Engaging in relevant training to enhance job performance.
- Complete all administrative functions and reports in line with T3PS policies and procedures.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills Training:
- Strong understanding of First nation service delivery, customs, and traditions.
- Familiarity with Anishinaabe culture, including the Eight Grandfather Teachings.
- Knowledge of best practices in administrative processes and external service agencies.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to adapt to different audiences and ensure cultural appropriateness in messaging.
- Ability to think critically, adapt to various cultural contexts, and resolve issues while considering cultural sensitivities and logistical constraints.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity in decision-making, ensuring respect and inclusivity when addressing culturally sensitive topics.
- Primarily an office-based role with occasional travel and physical tasks such as lifting and bending. Flexibility in hours may be required for meetings or emergency situations.
- Ability to set goals, make decisions, and provide direction.

Entry Level Rate $34.97/hr, with potential for progression to $39.90/hr
