Treaty Three Police Service Criminal Intelligence Officer is a position that is funded through the RCMP First Nations Organized Crime Initiative (FNOCI). The purpose of this position is to build an intelligence capability within the Treaty Three Police Service which involves the gathering and sharing of information with the specialized units, uniform members, command staff and law enforcement partners throughout North America regarding a number of different issues. The member assigned works closely with the Drug, Crime and Guns and Gangs Units to ensure the timely sharing of intelligence information.
Treaty Three Police Service CIO is a member in good standing with the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario (CISO), Criminal Intelligence Service of Manitoba (CISM) and a member of the Native Street Gang Intelligence Working Group (NSGIWG) along with seven other law enforcement agencies in Northwestern Ontario. The Treaty Three Region is seen as a strategic focal point for any illegal activities or contraband moving East through Ontario, West into the prairies’, or South into the United States of America. Our continued Intelligence gathering and intelligence contributions are exceedingly essential for enforcement and the overall protection of our communities.
Recent meetings with Provincial funders and the RCMP have established that the CIO position will be extended for a further Three Years beyond our current Memorandum of Understanding set to expire in April 2015. There is no doubt this is due to the excellent work of the Treaty Three Police Service CIO along with countless other dedicated General Duty Officers who assist by conducting Street Checks and gathering crime related intelligence on a daily basis.
