Investigation into Child Pornography leads to charges and conviction

(Kenora, ON) – After an extensive investigation conducted by the Treaty Three Police Service Crime Unit, 23 year old, Michael DICKSON, of Fort Frances, Ontario was sentenced to 90 days custody for accessing child pornography.

Treaty Three Police Service received a report in May of 2013 of concerns regarding inappropriate online messages being distributed by DICKSON. In response to this report, Treaty Three Police Service Crime Unit launched a lengthy, 8 month investigation, involving the seizure of numerous computers and devices. As a result of the investigation, Michael DICKSON was arrested in January 2014.

Michael DICKSON pled guilty to accessing child pornography and was sentenced on September 22, 2014 to the following:

  • 90 days custody
  • 12 months probation,
  • 5 year prohibition order to not attend a public park or public swimming area where persons under the age of sixteen years are present or can reasonably be expected to be present, or a day care center, school ground, play ground or community center, to not seek or obtain or continue any employment, whether or not the employment is remunerated or becoming or being a volunteer in a capacity that involves being in a position of trust or authority, towards persons under the age of sixteen years, to not have any contact – including communicating by any means – with a person who is under the age of 16 years, unless he does so under the supervision of a person whom the court considers reasonable and to not use the internet or any digital network, unless the offender does so in accordance with conditions set out by the court.
  • 10 year compliance with the Sex Offender Information Registration Act
  • Order to provide a sample of his DNA for the National DNA Databank
